The next James Bond

Layer Cake still

Say hello to the next James Bond. Sony Pictures and Eon Productions announced today that Daniel Craig will portray James Bond in next year’s Casino Royale, an adaptation of Ian Fleming’s first 007 book. (The above image is a still from Layer Cake, and it’s just a coincidence that I wrote about that movie a few days ago.)

GoldenEye director Martin Campbell will take the helm of this one. I had hoped Quinten Tarantino would have gotten a shot at this one. I think he could have made an amazing Bond film. Oh well.

On another double-o note, the next installment in EA’s line of James Bond games is due out early next month. It’s going to be a movie tie-in — albeit for a movie that was released more than 40 years ago. EA decided to adapt From Russia With Love into a modern video game.

320 x 240

320 x 240 for videos bought on iTunes? What the fuck? Do they actually expect people to watch the entire first season of Lost on their iPod?

I assumed (wrongly) that the iPod was merely one tool that could be used to watch these newly available goodies, just like you can listen to your iTunes Music Store music on your Mac or on your iPod. Sure, you can watch them on your Mac, but they are not full screen or archival material. Boo.

The resolution isn’t even good enough to look good on a regular (non-HD) TV, which has 525 lines.

And to think I was mere inches away from downloading Lost, Season 1!

I’ll stick to DVDs.

Edit: Again, I’m having the double-posting issue. Sorry about that.

Wordpress asplode

OK, so with that last post, when I hit the publish button, Wordpress published the post, but also created 8 copies of it and saved them as drafts. Bizarre.

Version number jumping?

iTunes was in version 4.x for about 30 years, right? So how, in less than two months, can they justify jumping from 5 to 6? What was the point of even making 5? They had to know this was in the pipeline. What’s coming in version 7? Probably not much, at this rate. Still no gapless playback… Still no artwork grabber… No lyric grabber… (That last one’s really not that important, but it would be cool.)

On another note, the new iPod is sharp. I wonder what the battery life will be like.

On a third note, the new iMac is awesome. It’s got to be the most bang for your buck that you’re going to find in the world of Mac. Now just add a TV tuner and it could replace the television. Of course, it could create conflict among multiple residents in a home, but that wouldn’t stop me if I had the spare $1,700 lying around.

To style

Alright, I’ve been going back through the archives a bit (don’t ask me why) and I realize that I’ve been terribly stylistically inconsistent. Should I stick to AP style, the demigod of professional writers everywhere? The biggest problem I find is what to do with composition titles. AP says to put quotation marks around everything, except things like the Bible or Encyclopedia. Unfortunately, putting quotation marks around things in hypertext means something different, and I’m afraid I’ll screw things up.

Perhaps I should adapt my own style. Either way, I want to be consistent. I’ll decide soon.
