The ‘t’ in ‘often’ is silent

That’s all I have to say, really. It’s just silent. So don’t pronounce it.

The goose is getting fat

It’s getting to be that time of year again. Time to spin some John Denver & the Muppets.

Download Christmas Is Coming, if you have a soft spot for ‘em.

Hey, City of Bend

Hey Bend, your ability make the roads drivable SUCKS!

I went to college in a dying industrial town in Indiana and they had better response time than you.

King Kong (2005)

“Congratulations! You are officially the 1 bazillionth blogger to write about Peter Jackson’s ‘King Kong’! You get … nothing!”

Michelle and I saw “King Kong” (the remake, duh) at the local supermegaplex today. I know everything I have to say on it has probably been said before, and probably better, but I’ll give it a shot.

Capote (2005)

Capote (2005)

Philip Seymour Hoffman stars as Truman Capote in the eponymous film about the writing of “In Cold Blood.”

“Capote” is what I like to call a “face movie.” That means that the filmmakers try to create dramatic impact by filming really close to people’s faces for extended amounts of time. That being said, the effect does work. It really allows the actors to be subtle and precise. Now, that being said, the movie doesn’t make you like Truman Capote. Sure, Hoffman does an incredible job portraying him. At least, I think. I honestly don’t know that much about Capote. But he uses two men whose lives hang in the balance, and in the end he just wants them to be executed so he can have an ending for his book, “In Cold Blood.”

Overall, it’s an impressive piece of film, but it doesn’t overwhelm. It doesn’t break any new ground, really. It barely touches on the reasons for the brutal killings that the book describes.

I’m glad I saw the movie, but I could have waited to see it at a second run theatre.
