Free music from the Bulletin

I’ve spent the last few weeks helping put together a year-end music compilation that The Bulletin is giving away. It’s one disc of Central Oregon bands and one disc of national acts. Of course, whether you choose to actually make discs is up to you. But I put some effort into the included printable sleeves! (Oh, and if you want the jewel insert version, e-mail me. I can probably hook you up.)

Visit www.bendbulletin.com/nearfar to download The Bulletin’s free two-disc compilation Near/Far, containing 30 MP3s from Central Oregon and national acts. No subscription required. Includes songs from The Shins, Arcade Fire, Aesop Rock, Band of Horses, plus Person People, The Roe, The Mostest, Coyo and more.

p.s. I apologize if your download is slow. It’s not my fault.

Aotearoa bound

The placeMichelle and I will be traveling to New Zealand for the last two weeks of October. Check out the stops we’ve already planned. If you know anything about the places we’re visiting, by all means, help us get the most out of it.I’ll have a digital camera and I’ll be taking as many photos as I can. If and when we get access to the Internet, I’ll attempt to upload photos as we go. Check out our New Zealand travels photoset for that.I won’t have my cell phone (doesn’t work there), but I may check my voicemail once.If I write anything it will probably be on my tumblelog at zeigert.tumblr.com.Wish us luck on our travels!(Aotearoa is the Maori name for New Zealand, I think.)

another look at the lake

Michelle and I finally got out for a good hike this summer. We’ve been busy, and I hope that my schedule and energy level allow for more of this soon. In any case, the pictures speak louder than my words so check out the flickr set for more info.

I see the light…

… at the end of the tunnel. Sorry, I know it’s been ages since I’ve posted but I’ve been busting my ass for about 2 months now, with time for few diversions. I haven’t even finished any books since the last time I wrote about one. (I am reading a couple of good ones right now, though, and I’ll hopefully have one finished within a week. I’m looking forward to writing about it.)

But what I really want to share is this: If you own or have any interest in owning a Nintendo DS, you need to get an R4DS card. It’s simply the best $39 you will spend on video games, ever. That is, unless you’re already a hardcore modder. It’s basically a slot-1 card that takes micro-SD cards. (I bought a 2GB one to go with mine.) Copy software onto the micro-SD, put it in your DS and turn it on. That’s about as complicated as it gets. And the software available is … overwhelming to say the least.

Anyway, I’m still here. I just paid to renew the domain name for another year, so I’ll keep it up at least that long.

PowerBook back

I’m writing this from my good ol’ 12″ PowerBook, which is home to a fresh new 80GB Toshiba hard drive. This “unscheduled upgrade” could have come at a better time, but I’ve been meaning to do a clean install of Tiger for a while now. I had so many programs and preference files and crap everywhere, it sometimes seemed like the whole system had fleas or something.

But now OS X is shiny and clean. I didn’t lose any data, really, because I have a pretty thorough backup of everything, and I almost always store projects that I’m working on on our home network anyway.

The biggest pain in the ass was reinstalling Creative Suite 2. The installation itself wasn’t so bad, but the updating process for Adobe products bee-lows. It wants you to authenticate every 3 minutes for about a half an hour. So I had to babysit the Adobe updater like an annoyed parent.

This also gave me the opportunity to make sure I had the latest versions of all the software I use installed, which is kind of nice.

Anyway, it’s almost like having a new Mac to play around with. Except it’s the same one I had before. It’s just a clean slate is all, which makes it feel new again. Nevermind.
