I think it’s the music that gets me.

For some reason, I’ve gone from three pairs of headphones to zero in less than a week.
Exhibit A: I wake up one morning to find one of my cats has chewed one of my Sony MDR-J10 earpieces completely off. So now I have one headphone. It still plays sound.
Exhibit B: I walk into work one day to find my ancient pair of Sony over-ear headphones with one cup snapped off. Awesome. (I later found out who did it. But I wasn’t angry. They were pretty old.)
Exhibit C: I can’t find my damn Apple In-Ear headphones frickin’ anywhere. I hope I didn’t leave them on a plane or something.
Closing arguments: If money weren’t an issue, I’d own dozens, nay scores of headphones. There’s just something about each type. I’d have the classic iPod earbuds for casual listening. Then I’d have the In-Ear buds for when I need to block out other sounds. But a pair of those studio style cups from Sony would be nice, too. Of course, I’ve got to have a pair of the cheap “stable earclip” style phones for running. (I’ve already replaced my MDR-J10s.) I’d really like to pick up a pair of old-skool Walkman phones, you know, the ones with the metal strip that wraps around your head and the orange spongey speakers. Anyway, you get the point.
The point of this entry is really to ask people what are some good phones to replace the ones I’ve lost. (Aside from the MDR-J10s.) Not too expensive, but no Cobys either.
OK, this episode of “Miami Vice” is getting pretty good, so I’m going to end this thing here.
Oh, and Fred Meyer is selling copies of “Shaun of the Dead” for $8, among other titles. Can’t beat that.
I’ve rekindled my love for Quicksilver. There really is nothing else like it for any operating system. But I can really sing no praise that hasn’t been sung before.
“Ocarina of Time” showed up on the Virtual Console today. Could the Wii be any more awesome?
Thirteen hours later, (shut up) my friend and I walked out of Wal-mart, Wiis in hand. It was an sometimes interesting, mostly excrutiatingly boring wait. By sometimes interesting, I mean that of the 20 people who were standing in line, almost half of them had Nintendo DSes, including me. So we had a couple of giant wireless MarioKart DS tournaments. I also got my ass handed to me several times at Metroid Prime Hunters.
There was a little bit of conflict over who was No. 20 in our line, but it all got straightened out. A few sketchy characters showed up at 11 o’clock, hoping to displace someone in line. A kid got his DS and all games snatched during our transition from the garden center (yes, they made us wait in the garden center) to layaway, and we all felt bad for him. What a bittersweet day for him.
But when we got home and plugged it all in and gave it a shot, it became clear that it might have been worth it. Not to say I would ever, ever, ever want to do that again, but to use the words of my friend, “I think Nintendo is onto something here.”
