An apostrophe can stand for a lot of things. To most, it indicates possession, or something that is of something else. For example, this is Andy’s website.
An apostrophe is also an address, either to someone who is absent and therefore cannot hear the speaker or to something nonhuman that cannot comprehend. Apostrophe often provides a speaker the opportunity to think aloud.
Both of those definitions describe this site.
About Apostrophe S
This site began in the summer of 2004 as a way for me to keep in touch with friends and family without sending mass emails while I was interning in New Jersey. I had known about the blogosphere for some time before that, but had never really thought I had anything to add. I still don’t, really, but it’s become what I consider a healthy habit to write on a regular basis.
Originally called Ten Weeks in Jersey, this site was hosted by the now not-as-cool Blogger and was only intended to be an online journal of my activities. After a while, though, I began to write more and more about abstract things. Any time I wanted to get an opinion off of my chest, the blog was the perfect place to do it.
I’ve shifted somewhat from basically listing what I’ve done since the last entry. Now, I try to write a little something about films, books, music or video games I’ve recently consumed. I also write about things I do that I think others might find interesting, such as attending concerts or visiting really interesting places, usually accompanied by Flickr photo sets. What I really enjoy, however, are personal projects, such as my occasional rant about Archie comics.
Eventually, this site will also host an oft-updated online version of my portfolio.
Apostrophe S is powered by Wordpress, K2, and a folder full of plugins. There are currently < ?php mdv_post_count(); ?> posts which contain < ?php mdv_post_word_count(); ?> words.
I also have a Technorati Profile. #
About the author
My name is Andy Zeigert, and live in Bend, Oregon, where I design pages for the city newspaper, The Bulletin. (Yes, I know their website isn’t the best designed one out there.)
I recently graduated from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. While in college, I worked for the student newspaper, the Daily News.
Indiana also happens to be my home state. If you know where Michiana is, you know where I’m from.
I have both Flickr and del.icio.us accounts that I try to update often. In addition, I maintain a portfolio at News Page Designer that I try to update whenever I’ve created something respectable. This feature will eventually be rolled into Apostrophe S.
